Those that are considering participation in counseling or therapy often do not have basic information to help guide their choice of the most effective service provider. All counselors and therapists have expertise in one or more models of treatment. Each model emphasizes different factors necessary to successfully resolve one’s issue or concern. Each model has been shown to be more or less effective in resolving different types of concerns that clients present with and no model is universally considered superior to others in helping address all areas of concern.

To make the process of finding a counselor or therapist easier we have compiled narrative descriptions on the most commonly used models of therapy that are practiced and the types of issues or concerns with which they help the most. This is not an exhaustive list, as there are a great many models and techniques in use. We hope these resources help to inform you in your search for a quality counselor or therapist.
