EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

For individuals experiencing problems as a result of past or current traumas, Compatible Counseling Solutions now offers EMDR treatment as a part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences by helping clients to focus on the original disturbing memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation of the brain using eye movements or tapping. It’s thought that EMDR and this bilateral brain stimulation help access a person’s traumatic memory network so that more adaptive associations are created.  This then results in new learning and the reduction of emotional distress.

Originally developed as a treatment for major traumas such as natural disasters, combat, physical abuse, and sexual abuse, EMDR is now widely used to address a range of presenting issues that stemming from early childhood or from recent traumatic experiences.

Individuals receiving EMDR as part of their services at Compatible Counseling Solutions often describe having problems with social anxiety, relationships, or low self esteem. Many say that they already understand the nature of the problem and how they need to behave or think about it in order for change to happen, but that knowing what needs to change isn’t sufficient. They feel like something blocks them from making the change.
